Julia Timoschenkos Pamphlete auf Englisch

Beitrag von Handrij »

Nachfolgend die Aufrufe Julia Timoschenkos in der englischen Übersetzung ihres Pressedienstes:
I’m so happy that hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians came out to EuroMaidans all around the world. They came out to prevent the ruling mafia from killing our European choice and ruining our life.

I’m proud to be Ukrainian, to feel myself a part of the great and strong nation that managed to gain independence and preserve it despite everything, that managed to survive Holodomor and Soviet tortures, managed to rise and win its freedom during the Orange Revolution and found strength to rise today on all EuroMaidans to win once again.

I love you, my Unbowed Ukrainians, I love you with all my soul and all my heart! I believe in all your future victories!

You are my inspiration, my hope, my pride and my strength to live.

It’s painful for me that I cannot physically be with you right now and that I cannot together with you breathe the sacred air of unity, freedom and struggle that has always filled our Maidan. But despite all bars, my every part lives with you and believes in our Victory!

As a sign of unity and solidarity with everyone who is fighting on all EuroMaidans in Ukraine and around the globe, I go on a indefinite hunger strike with a demand for Yanukovych to sign the Association and Free Trade Agreements with the EU.

I ask you, my dear Ukrainians, to increase our forces on Maidans every day. I ask you to raise an unprecedented in its scale avalanche of our will and strength so that Yanukovych’s authoritarian mafia fails to prevent our historic and sacred reunification with the real civilizational family we were separated from hundreds of years ago.

Don’t give up! Don’t let them ruin our lives! Go on and win!

Ukraine has great future because Ukraine has all of you!

And if on 29 November Yanukovych doesn’t sign our Agreement with the EU, wipe him off Ukraine’s face by peaceful and constitutional means together with his political and corruption metastases! Don’t stop! Go on and never look back!

Ukraine is Europe!

Glory to Ukraine!

Appeal to the parliaments and leaders of the United Europe

Ukraine's moment of decision with Europe has arrived. As you are all well
aware Ukraine, which for hundreds of years has wandered through history's
mazes and dead ends, can through signing an Association Agreement with
Europe finally anchor itself in the family of free societies. So this
Agreement is no mere treaty. For us it's a recovery of our nation's promise,
it is a window through which we can pull ourselves out of a dark past into a
European reality. All Ukrainians realize that signing this Agreement means
that we will have to work very hard and endure hardship for a certain period
of time in order to gain the many benefits of deep association with the
European Union. Once the Association Agreement is born, however, our fight
to reform our society into a true democracy and market economy, with a
justice system underpinned by the rule of law, will have real meaning
because we know what the ultimate goal will become - full Ukrainian
membership in the European Union.

But just in the final moments before the Vilnius summit where Ukraine's
European dreams would at last become reality, President Viktor Yanukovich,
by suddenly pushing down hard on all the political brakes, announced that he
no longer intends to choose Europe as Ukraine's destiny. He has turned the
entire machine of the Ukrainian state around, ruining the hopes and plans of
a vast majority of Ukrainians for European integration. There are two
reasons for this fiasco: the arguments presented by Russia's president were
especially convincing and impossible for Ukrainian state to reject, and
Yanukovich has decided that to safeguard his rule, Ukraine must remain in
the twilight zone in which he leads his life, that no-man's land between two
civilizations.

Indeed, President Yanukovich has never really had a European or any other
strategy in the sense of a fully thought through strategy to assure
Ukraine's successful future or its European destiny. He is always searching
for a narrow tactical path, some international instrument or other, that
will enhance his ability to stay in power which in turn will guarantee his,
and his cronies, accumulation of wealth.

>From the start, Yanukovich's only motivation for saying that he would sign
the Association Agreement was to use the Agreement to legitimize the
authoritarian and corrupt rule of his clan. The European community, however,
by establishing the necessary criteria for fulfillment, did not leave him
any space for double standards. So Yanukovich decided not to sign the
Association Agreement after all. To disrupt the Association process, he
conveniently used the false arguments of insurmountable Russian pressure and
economic losses caused by Association with Europe.

Evidently, Russia exerts pressure, but this pressure would not be an
obstacle for Yanukovich to sign were he certain sure that the Agreement
would be a warrant for his continuing power. However, democracy, freedom of
speech, free and fair elections, just courts, termination of corruption and
political persecution, which are inherent in the Agreement, are incompatible
with authoritarian rule. This realization could explain why Yanukovich
deemed the Agreement harmful.

Now, to my mind, there are two scenarios under which events could unfold.
If under the pressure of massive Ukrainian manifestations on "Euromaidans"
throughout the country, Yanukovich, may yet decide to sign the Agreement in
the last moment on the 29th of November in Vilnius. This is the first
scenario. There is a minuscule hope for this, a hope based on the
authoritarian ruler's fear of a people's rebellion. If Yanukovich makes a
positive decision in Vilnius on Friday, I implore you to sign this
historical Agreement without hesitation or conditions, including the
condition of my release from prison. I understand very well that for you
this matter is not only about freedom for one political prisoner. That the
condition of my freedom is, primarily, a test for Ukrainian authorities'
ability to think and act in a European way, a test of their sincerity in
embracing European values, most importantly, that the law is not a servant
of political whim. They failed this test.

I thank you with all my heart for the fight you have been waging for three
years now to free political prisoners in Ukraine. Yuri Lutsenko, myself and
others, we all know that our fates have not been sealed because of your
unswerving support. So I, indeed all Ukrainians, are in your debt for the
unstinting efforts you have made to defend democracy in Ukraine. Today,
however, it is not political prisoners who should be saved, but Ukraine
itself, and this means signing the Association Agreement in case Yanukovich
agrees. By signing the Association Agreement with us, you will help the
whole nation to cross a civilizational divide, one created by false
ideologies and old imperial aggression; you will take one more important
step in forging Europe's ever closer union.

Unfortunately, though, the most probable turn of events is that Yanukovich
will not sign the Agreement. In this second scenario, his intention will be
to use the platform of the Summit to continue his lie, declaring his
European intentions, which are only a facade for building a corrupt
authoritarianism back home. If Yanukovich fails to sign the Agreement in
Vilnius on 29th of November, he will never sign it. Any further belief in
his pro-European promises, any expectation that he may sign the Agreement
sometime in the future would provide him with time to cement his
dictatorship.

In such circumstances, there will be no chance of even partially fair
elections in Ukraine, no survival of even half- independent media, political
or economic competition, no remnants of human and civic rights and hopes for
positive change. Ukrainian society and political opposition are too weak to
withstand the challenges they face on their own. The decline to full
dictatorship could be abrupt and radical.

In this scenario Ukraine will be shifted to that part of humankind that
resides in that poisoned zone of authoritarianism, injustice, clan economy
and corruption, civilized and developed societies will seem very distant
lands. And there is a very strong risk of falling into the trap of
stagnation. Our world is a living organism, and authoritarian regimes are a
type of virulent disease that slows and distorts the development of all
mankind. I beg you: if Yanukovich fails to sign the Agreement in Vilnius, do not leave dictatorship in Ukraine any space for survival. The
practice of dictators enslaving their nations can no longer be viewed as
solely a matter of domestic politics. Such monopolies of power have to be
eliminated with the full arsenal of civilization's peaceful international
instruments.

That is why I am calling on you not to trust the empty pro-European rhetoric
of Ukrainian authorities, but to activate all available instruments and make
sure that the presidential elections due in Ukraine in 2015 will be truly
fair and free. This will give possibility for new democratic power, and for
Ukraine's democratic minded citizens, to oust the authoritarian regime and
for the people of Ukraine to walk confidently down the road towards the
United Europe.

I admit with regret that my imprisonment forbids me to stand by you in
person try to convince you not to abandon Ukraine at its hour of need. I
only believe that you, like me, and like the majority of Ukrainians, feel
that without Ukraine there cannot be a strong and United Europe, and without
being part of the United Europe, Ukraine's future cannot be successful.

With deep respect and hope,

Yulia Tymoshenko, 28.11.2013

APPEAL BY YULIA TYMOSHENKO TO UKRAINIAN PEOPLE

FIGHT OR WE ARE NOT WORTH FREEDOM

FAILURE TO SIGN THE ASSOCIATION AGREEMENT WITH EUROPEAN UNION COINCIDED WITH BEGINNING OF YANUKOVYCH’S MEMBERSHIP IN THE CLUB OF WORLD DICTATORS WITH ALL OBVIOUS CONSEQUENCES FOR OUR PEOPLE

WE HAVE ALREADY SEEN THE FIRST EVIDENCE OF THIS HISTORICAL FACT – BEATING OF JOURNALISTS, HACKER ATTACKS ON FREE MEDIA AND OPPOSITION, ATTEMPT TO SWITCH OFF FROM AIR SAVIK SHUSTER TALK SHOW ON INTER TV CHANNEL, TERROR ATTACKS ON UNIVERSITY DIRECTORS, WHO ALLOWED THEIR STUDENTS TO GO OUT TO EUROMAIDANS, AND THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING.

TODAY AT 4 AM ON INDEPENDENCE SQUARE YANUKOVYCH ORGANISED A BRUTAL BLOODY ATTACK AGAINST OUR CHILDREN. USING BATONS POLICE WENT ON TO BEAT OUR CHILDRENS’ KIDNEYS, BREAK THEIR ARMS, LEGS AND SKULLS.

AT THIS MOMENT I WANT TO APPEAL TO ALL MOTHERS AND FATHERS OF UKRAINE NOT TO LEAVE THIS ATTACK UNANSWERED! IF WE SILENTLY ACCEPT THIS UNPRECEDENTED VIOLENCE, IF WE LOWER OUR HEADS, IF WE MAKE IT LOOK LIKE NOTHING HAD HAPPENNED AND WILL GO ON WITH OUR DAILY LIVES – THEN WE ARE NOT WORTH OUR FREEDOM, NOT WORTH OUR CHILDREN, WHO GATHERED AT MAIDANS TO FIGHT FOR OUR COMMON EUROPEAN FUTURE.

BLOODY ATTACK AGAINST OUR CHILDREN WAS STARTED EXACTLY AT 4 AM, IN THE SAME HOUR WHEN ANOTHER MURDERER ADOLF HITLER HAD DECLARED WAR AGAINST US. IN THE SAME WAY, HAVING DEALT WITH OUR CHILDREN, WITH OUR EUROPEAN DREAM, YANUKOVYCH HAS ESTABLISHED THE DICTATORSHIP. THUS DECLARING A WAR AGAINST US TOO. THEN BACK IN 1941, WE ROSE AGAINST EVIL WITH ALL OUR PEOPLE’S MIGHT AND TODAY WE HAVE TO, WE ARE OBLIGED TO DO THE SAME! IF WE TAKE A TIME-OUT, IT WILL BE TOO LATE. EVIL WILL PREVAIL.

I APPEAL TO ALL UKRAINIAN PEOPLE TO RESIST AND RISE UP AGAINST YANUKOVYCH AND HIS DICTATORSHIP, TO GATHER AT THE FOOTSTEPS OF SHEVCHENKO MONUMENT ON THE 1ST OF DECEMBER AT NOON. IN RESPONSE FOR THE DENIAL OF OUR EUROPEAN CHANCE, IN RESPONSE FOR BEATING OF OUR CHILDREN, MILLIONS OF UKRAINIANS MUST RAISE THEIR VOICES . HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS WILL NOT BE ENOUGH IN THIS VERY DIFFICULT SITUATION. THEN THE MAIN GOAL FOR US WILL BE TO STAY AT THE MAIDAN, TO STAND OUR GROUND UNTIL THE REGIME IS DOWN BY PEACFUL MEANS. WE HAVE ONE MORE NIGHT AHEAD OF US TO UNITE FOR THIS PROTEST.

FLY, DRIVE, WALK TO KYIV FROM ALL THE CORNERS OF UKRAINE, BUT GET TOGETHER AS ONE UKRAINIAN NATION ON THE 1ST OF DECEMBER AND FOR EVERY DROP OF BLOOD OF OUR CHILDREN AND PEOPLE , FOR OUR LOST EUROPEAN FUTURE, DO NOT LET YANUKOVYCH BE AT PEACE EVEN FOR ONE MINUTE.

DO NOT EXPECT THIS WORK TO BE DONE BY SOMEBODY ELSE. IT IS UP TO US, IT IS OUR LIFE, OUR FREEDOM.

RISE AND WASH OUR SQUARES OF UKRAINE CLEAN FROM OUR BLOOD. IF WE ALL REMAIN SITTING ON OUR SOFAS IN FRONT OF TV SETS AND WILL NOT MAKE YANUKOVYCH TO GIVE UP HIS POWER, THEN WE DO NOT HAVE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN, THEN WE ARE WORTH HUMILIATION AND DICTATORSHIP.

I BELIEVE IN OUR UKRAINIAN NATION, I BELIEVE THAT OUR PEOPLE HAVE A SPECIAL MISSION IN MANKIND EVOLUTION, I BELIEVE IN EACH ONE OF YOU. JOIN YOUR FORCES AND RE-INSTATE JUSTICE IN OUR OWN COUNTRY. TAKE POWER IN YOUR HANDS NOW.

GLORY TO UKRAINE!

A Prisoner's Reflections on Nelson Mandela

By Yuliya Tymoshenko, 06.12.2013

KHARKIV - Incarceration is said to leave you with a feeling of helplessness
and vulnerability. But the truth of life for a political prisoner, even for
one on a hunger strike, is the opposite. As a prisoner, I have been forced
to focus on what is essential about myself, my political beliefs, and my
country. So I can almost feel the presence of the brave women and men, old
and young, who have gathered in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities to defend
their dreams of a democratic and European future. In prison, your hopes and
dreams become your reality.

I am sure that Nelson Mandela would have understood my feelings and agreed.
The South African apartheid regime may have locked him away for decades, but
in the great Soweto protests and the other demonstrations for freedom and
equality, courageous young South Africans invariably looked to his example
and felt his presence.

Around the world, most people now rightly celebrate the gentle dignity with
which Mandela led South Africa out of the political wilderness. Even here,
behind prison bars and 24-hour surveillance of the type that he experienced
for almost three decades, I can conjure the warmth of his broad smile, merry
eyes, and those colorful Hawaiian-style shirts that he wore with such
panache.

And I can admire his unyielding - and, yes, sometimes wily - commitment to
reconciliation, which saved his country from the race war that those who
refused to accept the end of white-minority rule saw as inevitable. How
wrong they were, and how miraculous was Mandela's achievement in making even
his most implacable enemies feel at home in post-apartheid South Africa.

But here, in this place, it is not Mandela the statesman who touches my soul
and fires my imagination. "My" Mandela is the prisoner, the Mandela of
Robben Island, who endured 27 years behind bars (18 of them on a rock in the
South Atlantic) and yet emerged with his spirit intact, brimming with a
vision of a tolerant South Africa, a nation liberated even for apartheid's
architects and beneficiaries.

No purges marked the end of white rule. There were no witch-hunts, nor was
there summary justice. All that Mandela demanded was that the truth about
the past be revealed. Through the unique innovation of the Truth and
Reconciliation Commission, Mandela found the only viable bridge between his
country's racist legacy and its multi-racial present and future - a
combination of political genius and humane wisdom that marks only the
greatest of leaders.

Mandela was able to guide South Africa to freedom because he was able to see
its future more clearly than those who lived through the apartheid years
outside of prison. Indeed, he possessed that rare clarity of moral vision
that prison - perhaps like no other environment - can nurture.

Imprisonment brought Aleksander Solzhenitsyn this clarity as well.
"Gradually it was disclosed to me that the line separating good and evil
passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political
parties, either - but right through every human heart - and through all
human hearts," he wrote in The Gulag Archipelago. "This line shifts..And
even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is
retained. And even in the best of all hearts, there remains...an un-uprooted
small corner of evil."

The ability to begin to see more clearly than most the inner workings of the
human soul is one of the few gifts that imprisonment can bestow. Forced to
reckon with your own vulnerability, isolation, and losses (and seemingly
lost cause), you learn to look more carefully into the human heart - yours
and that of your jailers.

Mandela epitomized this rare gift. How else could he have personally invited
one of his Robben Island jailers to attend his inauguration as South
Africa's first democratically elected president?

Of course, behind Mandela's generous spirit was a character of steel. He
bore his imprisonment for the sake of his cause. And he bore the anguish of
the suffering imposed on his family. And yet he neither broke nor
surrendered to the rage that would have consumed most people.

As usual, Mandela's own words about his day of personal liberation show how
well he understood this: "As I walked out the door toward the gate that
would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn't leave my bitterness and hatred
behind, I'd still be in prison." And just as Mandela knew in his prison cell
that apartheid would one day fall, I know in my solitude that Ukraine's
ultimate triumph as a European democracy is certain.

Yuliya Tymoshenko was Prime Minister of Ukraine and is now leader of the
opposition.

Yulia Tymoshenko: the authoritarian regime must be removed from power

Appeal by Yulia Tymoshenko

Glory to Ukraine!

My dear Ukrainians!

Today the Euromaidans in Ukraine and across the world have gathered our nation's best sons and daughters. I am proud and happy to be part of our great nation, which has many achievements ahead of it that will change our country and world for the better.

I believe in this and I live with this belief.

But right now we are going through the most difficult period in all 22 years of independence. We’re on the razor’s edge: on one side there is brutal corrupt dictatorship and, on the other, returning home to the European community, although our chances of ending up in a medieval dictatorship are far greater.

The fateful choice being made on all the maidans between dictatorship and Europe is in your hands. Only the Ukrainian people together with the opposition have a chance to change the dangerous course of history that Yanukovych has put us on.

And so the first thing I want to ask you is not to give up! Don’t take any steps back. Don’t sit down to the negotiating table with bandits whose hands are covered in the blood of our children while their offshore bank accounts are bursting with your money. The country has few chances to overthrow this horde because there is little hope for fair elections in 2015. The president elections will be bought and falsified as boorishly as the last parliamentary elections.

In my opinion there are three axioms that we have to consider when making our plans.

Axiom one. Yanukovych will never sign the Association Agreement with the European Union. He believes that accession to the democratic European community is incompatible with his everlasting rule. The economic problems he refers to play no role here. He simply decided to join the club of dictators where nobody will interfere with him building his corrupt clan, taking the country’s remaining resources, massacring free and disobedient Ukrainians, filling all the country’s prisons with political prisoners and building his lifelong rule to be passed down to his billionaire sons.

Yanukovych will proclaim pro-European rhetoric every day and negotiate with European leaders the signing of the agreement only to neutralize and disarm the democratic world and leave him a chance to complete building a dictatorship.

The conclusion is simple – don’t believe a word Yanukovych says about being European and convince the international democratic community not to believe this either.

Axiom two. All four years of his presidency Yanukovych implemented pseudo-reforms that are clearly designed to usurp power and all the country’s economic resources. He created and strengthened his clan Family, eliminated fair elections, justice and fairness. He gave state awards and promoted those who followed his immoral orders, enriched his Family, and was ready to accept all lawlessness for a seat by the dictator. Yanukovych will never change this policy – he will continue it using all lawless methods.

The second conclusion: Yanukovych can only be stopped by the invincible power of the Ukrainian people. He understands only one language – the language of peaceful and confident power, and that’s how you should talk to him! He has to be removed from power right now peacefully and legally.

Axiom three. To preserve his power and corrupt wealth, Yanukovych won’t think twice about using violence. The bloody beating of our children on Euromaidan, the beating and mass arrests of innocent people, the training of an army of thugs, formation of punitive units inside the country who outnumber the army and are ready to kill Ukrainians to protect the dictatorship – these are Yanukovych’s personal tactics. He made the decision to defend his everlasting power at the cost of the lives of patriots of Ukraine.

Conclusion: He has no intention of giving up power, even if there isn’t a person left in Ukraine that supports him. Therefore, the only chance to remove him once and for all is right now while there is a million people standing on the maidans.

It’s not an easy task and it can’t be realized quickly. It requires our joint efforts based on a clear plan that the people know and understand. Don’t give up! Don’t take even one step back. The fate of Ukraine is in your hands.

And now the most important thing. Today everyone comes to the maidans with one question: what is our goal and what is our plan?

Our goal – the immediate early removal of Yanukovych as president of Ukraine. All representatives of central and local government – berkut, "zakharchenkos", "pshonkas", "kluyevs", and everything else – are his metastases that will die as soon as their mastermind disappears from the political map.

Focus all your plans and efforts on this. If we don’t do it now, later we may not be able to.

This is my proposed PLAN. Some important steps have already been taken! Being in jail I cannot take responsibility for the quality and effectiveness of the implementation of this plan, and so, it is only my advice but the decision whether to follow it is yours to make together!

First and foremost – Yanukovych lost his legitimacy as president the moment he destroyed the signing of the agreement, drowned in the corruption of the Family, ordered a brutal attack on our children, caused a political, economic and social crisis, relocated to Sochi and doesn’t have the support of a majority of citizens of Ukraine. He is no longer president of our country – he is a tyrant that must answer for every drop of blood spilled by him, for every penny he stole from the people, for every life he ruined in the four years of his tyranny.

But he changed the laws in these four years in a way that the people don’t have the right to remove him. The law on a national referendum is a fraud; impeachment is impossible in his usurped parliament. And he will never resign at the demand of the people because this requires a conscience and responsibility. But even he wasn’t able to remove Article 5 of the Constitution that says that power belongs to you and only you. When one corrupt person unconstitutionally doesn’t allow you to use your power, then you have all constitutional grounds to establish direct rule of the people through peaceful and legal means. Begin to act strictly according to the articles of the constitution that define the people as the only source of power.

Form a new system of government, including the Central Election Commission. Form this government with equal representation of the people and opposition, with moral and professional people.

This requires strength and will. Negotiations with Yanukovych’s regime are possible only about the conditions of early presidential and parliamentary elections. The elections must be organized legally and carefully under the supervision of international observers.

Part two of my proposed plan is to form a group of competent military officers from civil society and the opposition that will begin negotiations with the army and security units on all levels to convince them to side with the people and refuse to serve a dictatorship. We must prevent any violence that can be used against the people.

Part three. Form together with Maidan a group of highly qualified diplomats that will begin negotiations with leaders of the democratic world on helping the Ukrainian people remove this authoritarian regime by imposing sanctions and international investigations into Yanukovych’s corruption. If we cannot bring him to justice in Ukraine, we must do this at the international level.

Most importantly, our diplomats will need to convince world leaders that expecting Yanukovych to sign the agreement with the EU is futile. He has chosen the opposite path and the return to the European perspective that he talks about is cynical deception that buys him time to implement his dictatorial plans.

Part four of my plan. Form an anti-corruption group that will operate internationally. It should include diplomats, professional investigators and journalists, that have already investigated Yanukovych's corrupt activity and possess the necessary evidence.

Take three striking facts of international corruption by Yanukovych’s Family and send this delegation to those countries where his corrupt deals took place. The loud international criminal cases must be initiated that will bring those responsible to justice.

Part five. This plan is possible only if millions of Ukrainians are on the streets every day, increasing the pressure on Yanukovych in all Christian and peaceful ways. It is important to begin the pressure on Yanukovych applying it to his den of corruption in Mezhyhirya.

Raise the country, stand strong and don’t go home with a defeat. Our effort is honest and moral. God is on the side of those that live by his laws.

I know that after my statement is read, Yanukovych’s propaganda dogs will try to discredit every word I said. They will throw more dirt at me. But back in 2000 I decided that I will fight to the end against the corrupt clans and oligarch system and I won’t give up.

If I were with you right now I would do exactly what I have just announced.

Remember, there is nobody to defend the country but you. If you give up it will remain vulnerable on the verge of losing independence, and you will have to either escape from the country taking your children or swear allegiance to dictatorship.

I know that you are strong, inspired and won’t give up. Be prepared for a long and difficult struggle – instant victory is impossible. But if planed professionally and well, our joint struggle has every chance of ending in victory.

I ask you to mobilize as many people as possible. I ask the people of Kyiv to be the main support of Maidan. I am amazed by how the people of Kyiv and all the country organized the life of those that came to the open battle.

The main value of our country is you - the unbroken fighters, fearless warriors!

I believe in you and am always with you.

Glory to Ukraine!

Yulia Tymoshenko urges Ukrainians to rise up!

Yulia Tymoshenko’s appeal to the Ukrainian people:

Every time a Berkut baton strikes a blow on a peaceful person at Maidan it is a blow to the face of the Ukrainian people. Don’t let Yanukovych to make violence a norm in our lives. I urge every Ukrainian to stand up!

No negotiations or roundtables with bandits - only the immediate resignation of Yanukovych and his entourage.

I also appeal to the leaders of the democratic world. Every time a Berkut baton strikes a blow on a peaceful protester defending Maidan it is a blow to the universal values that you are trying to make the foundation of human life.

I beg you to act!

Stop the authoritarian regime in Ukraine with financial and visa sanctions, and start international investigations into their corruption. Otherwise a cemetery for freedom burial will be built in Ukraine. Act!

Glory to Ukraine!

Und ihr übergroßes Bild am Weihnachtsbaum auf dem Maidan schadet auch mehr, als es nützt. Wenn sie ihrem Land helfen will, soll sie sich raushalten. Aber das ist wahrscheinlich zu viel verlangt.

Yulia Tymoshenko: as long as Yanukovych is in power, Ukraine risks losing its independence

Statement by Yulia Tymoshenko regarding the events in Moscow on Dec. 17:

On December 17, 2013 Viktor Yanukovych changed the course of history. By signing a package of public and secret documents with Vladimir Putin, he deliberately put Ukraine under the political, military, energy, financial and economic control of the Russian Federation.

The essence of the agreement between Yanukovych and Putin is much broader and complex than just some agreements that have been partially revealed to Ukraine and the world. The results of these agreements will be gradually implemented in the long-term strategic perspective until the creation of a single state entity under the complete domination of Russia and the gradual absorption of our state sovereignty.

What Yanukovych did on December 17, 2013 is much worse than simply joining the Customs Union. These were the first irreversible changes. Yanukovych no longer has the political freedom to make any independent decisions on the international arena. As of December 17, 2013, any steps by Ukraine towards Europe, including the signing of an association agreement between Ukraine and the EU, are impossible.

On December 17, 2013 Yanukovych annulled Ukraine as an independent entity, as a full-fledged participant in international politics, and put all international level decisions that concern Ukraine in the hands of Vladimir Putin.

It is also clear that after December 17 all programs aimed at Ukraine’s energy independence from Russia will be suspended because instead of introducing the market price for gas they have reinstated the political price along with Ukraine’s rejection of all energy diversification. The modernization of the country has again stopped.

After the signing of the agreement on December 17, Russian gas will not be cheaper for Ukraine because the annual interest that our country will pay for the 15 billion loan will be equal to the "discount" for gas. But the package of agreements signed on December 17 with every year will drag us deeper and deeper into financial and energy slavery with no easy way out.

On December 17, we as a country were stripped of all the independence from our northern neighbor that we worked so hard to gain over the past 22 years. Yanukovych didn’t single-handedly decide to hand over control of Ukraine to the Russian Federation. This decision reached by a consensus of all the leaders of the major oligarch clans with whom Yanukovych runs Ukraine.

This board of oligarch advisors consists of nine individuals. They, along with Yanukovych, made the decision to merge Ukraine with Russia on the molecular level with the complete surrender of the country as a sovereign state. And this is much more complicated that Ukraine just joining the Customs Union.

They also began the process of unification, which will include the creation of private Russian-Ukrainian mega corporations. They will soon privatize the remaining state monopolies in Ukraine in all spheres, from military to information.

Yanukovych and his oligarchs agreed to the merger of Ukraine and Russia for the sole reason of maintaining political power and misappropriating state resources of Ukraine. They decided they can do this only under the cover and protection of a new post-soviet empire. The life of Ukraine’s corrupt regime is incompatible with the values and traditions of the democratic world. This explains the choice Yanukovych and his inner circle made in favor of subordination to Russia and against European integration.

The only way out of this dangerous situation is the immediate peaceful removal of Yanukovych from power through constitutional means based on the will of the people. The removal of Yanukovych, not his marionettes – the government, NSDC or individual ministers.

If we put this off until 2015 we will lose Ukraine. I repeat - the 2015 presidential elections will not be fair, just as the elections were not fair in the five problematic districts last Sunday. Yanukovych must first be removed peacefully and constitutional now, and then the system of government can be changed, agreement with the EU signed and other useful things accomplished. As long as Yanukovych is in power, the existence of an independent Ukrainian state is under threat.

I appeal to everyone willing to fight for our Ukrainian independence against the almost imminent threat of neocolonialism and dictatorship to raise an army of millions and put one demand to Yanukovych – immediate snap elections for president of Ukraine. We should use all legal means to ensure they are held.

I also appeal to the democratic world: don’t leave Ukraine alone with the club of post-soviet dictators, don’t let them break the people that went out onto the EuroMaidan despite blood and fear. Strengthen the faith of the Ukrainian people in the values that the democratic world has been fighting for so hard. Yanukovych is laundering the dirty money of his clans in European countries, using this dirty money to buy property, yachts, planes and "trinkets" throughout the democratic world. The families of Yanukovych’s clan system are living in democratic countries on this corrupt money.

All this is allowed to go on while Yanukovych drowns the peaceful student maidan in blood, brings new criminal charges against civil society leaders and activists every day and throws them in jail, ignores the will of the people to be part of a united Europe. I ask the democratic world now to forbid such double standards and not to legitimize the Ukrainian regime by believing its insincere pro-European rhetoric. This could lead to the birth of a new aggressive empire on the territory of the former Soviet Union that will distort the development of all humanity.

My last appeal is to the opposition. Don’t be afraid of anything! Lead the Ukrainian people to victory over dictatorship by uniting your efforts with the democratic world. The only thing you can’t do is give up and find a convenient reason to retreat. Don’t leave the Maidans until a new, democratic, pro-European president is elected early in Ukraine and the entire system of life in Ukraine begins to change. To retreat now and stop fighting would be the worst betrayal of the Ukrainian people.

I trust that no Ukrainian will allow this!

Glory to Ukraine!

Yulia Tymoshenko: political prisoners are filled with a sense of inner freedom

Yulia Tymoshenko’s open letter to Mikhail Khodorkovsky

I welcome Mikhail Khodorkovsky’s return to freedom. For many people this was a significant and long-awaited event.

I think I could understand some of the emotions he’s feeling right now. Political prisoners, like those who experienced clinical death, return to reality with values and norms that deviate from the mainstream and maybe alien to many.

I definitely know that Mikhail Khodorkovsky isn’t overwhelmed by his new found physical freedom. By some unknown laws of nature, political prisoners generate in captivity so much inner freedom that it is enough to fill the whole world three times over.

He’s not so much overwhelmed by his physical freedom, as by his unearthly love to his family – with a bitter taste of guilt before them. And then there’s the gratitude to those who believed in him and fought on his side all these long years, a gratitude that quickly transforms into a sense of responsibility and devotion to these people.

But most importantly, and I’m certain of this, Mikhail Khodorkovsky has acquired an acute willingness and desire to try to make the world less brutal and more just for many. Doubtless, he has long outgrown the banal passion for collecting banknotes.

I, like many, believe that the release of Mikhail Khodorkovsky has given the world a strong, intellectual and moral warrior who together with others will be able to fill humanity with at least little more love and compassion.

Dear Mikhail, I hope that you are liberated and successful when on your new path.

Sincerely,

Yulia Tymoshenko

Statement by Yulia Tymoshenko about events in the Verkhovna Rada on January 16, 2014:

- On January 16, 2014, the Verkhovna Rada "adopted" laws without legitimately voting for them.

This isn’t just a blatant crime, for which those guilty, when the time comes, will face criminal liability, it’s also the final step in the elimination of Ukrainian parliamentarism as the main branch of government in Ukraine.

I am convinced that everything that happened in parliament was sanctioned by Viktor Yanukovych. Today, by deliberately killing parliamentarism, he took another major step towards establishing dictatorship in Ukraine.

I believe the parliamentary opposition must do the following:

First. Send open public letters asap to Yanukovych and Rybak demanding that they not sign these laws that parliament did not vote for, with clear legal proof of this and video evidence.

Second. If after these public letters Yanukovych and Rybak still sign these illegitimate laws, I ask the parliamentary opposition on that same day to submit to the Prosecutor General’s Office the report of a crime by Yanukovych, Rybak, Kalyetnik and Oliynyk and others involved and make sure that it is added to the Unified Register of Criminal Investigations.

Third. I ask the opposition to file a lawsuit that on January 16 the process of passing laws was violated and demand that this vote be invalidated. The complaint should include video evidence and demand that the laws be suspended until a ruling is delivered by the courts.

Fourth. I ask the opposition to take this lawsuit on the illegitimacy of the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada on January 16 of a package of laws to all possible Ukrainian courts and submit it as quickly as possible to the European Court of Human Rights and ask that it be given priority.

Fifth. Regardless of what the Ukrainian courts and Prosecutor General’s Office will do to stop the illegitimate voting process in the Verkhovna Rada (most likely they will allow this crime to happen), I ask the opposition to create a public commission of leading human rights activists that together with journalists will investigate this crime and make fair demands to the Ukrainian authorities. This expert opinion may have to be included in the application to the European Court.

I ask the opposition and civil society to act quickly and decisively because we won’t be defending the law, which Yanukovych humiliated on January 16, but Ukrainian parliamentarism, which is the final barricade before the total establishment of dictatorship.

I ask the opposition to act immediately.

Yulia Tymoshenko’s appeal to Viktor Yanukovych:

- Mr. Yanukovych, I am writing to ask you not to sign the laws that were passed by the Verkhovna Rada on January 15 without a vote.

No matter what your inner desire to tighten all the screws, no matter what advice you are given – think about the country.

The signing of these illegitimate and anti-democratic laws would be a deadly blow to Ukraine.

I ask you not to sign Ukraine’s death sentence.

Statement by opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko regarding events on Hrushevskoho Street in Kyiv on January 19:

- I am writing this to the ruling mafia that has violently seized control of Ukraine and plunged it into their dark criminal reality. Do you hear me!? You have no right calling the people that went out onto Hrushevskoho St. on January 19th criminals!

You, the mafia in power, drove the people to the edge, you snatched from their hands the life-saving ticket to Europe, and now you’re calling them provocateurs!?

You are disgraceful ruling villains who tried to bludgeon these people's children to death on Maidan, you crushed their small businesses, sent every last penny from the budget to Cyprus, ignored the millions of people that went out onto the squares countrywide and worldwide for long sixty days.

When they peacefully went to you hoping for fair decisions, you threw the best of them in jail and sentenced them to draconian prison terms. For what?! For wanting freedom!?

You, the mafia in power, drove peaceful and optimistic Ukrainians into the dead end. And now, when you left them no more rights for protest and came to you, for now to Hrushevskoho St., you have the audacity to call these people criminals, threaten them with arrest and send trained killers dressed in Berkut uniforms against them?!

You are a mafia in power. You earned this name long ago and to stop the people you should immediately and voluntarily disappear into oblivion. The people want you out of their lives and I support them wholeheartedly.

And you, brave sons and daughters of Ukraine, I send you my words of support and faith in you! Protect Ukraine and don’t be afraid of anything! You are the only protection Ukraine has. There is no other way for the people to deal with the mafia. Those standing on the front lines for Ukraine are heroes!

If I was free I would be with you on Hrushevskoho. Freedom is worth fighting for.

Yours,

Statement by Yulia Tymoshenko regarding events on Hrushevskoho Street:

- Today, January 22, on Ukrainian Unity Day (Den Sobornosti), Yanukovych gave the command to use guns against the EuroMaidan protesters. The first to be killed was Serhiy Nihoyan, who was on Maidan from the very beginning. Two more sons of Ukraine were killed next.

I ask everyone to pay their respects with a minute of silence.

I mourn together with all the peaceful people and their parents, together with everyone who feels this pain. The blood of these Heroes of Ukraine is on Yanukovych’s hands. He personally shot at them as he read his Unity Day greeting to the nation.

From the moment Yanukovych killed Serhiy Nihoyan and more of our boys, whose names we still don’t know, he ceased being president of Ukraine and became a murderer. After this, he no longer has the right to be president!

If we, Ukrainians, forgive him for this, we will deserve everything he does to us in the nearest future.

Ukrainians, children of my homeland, rise up for your children, your parents, yourself! Don’t let them continue to kill you! We have no other choice!

No negotiating with murderer Yanukovych.

The issue is clear cut: it's either them or a Free Ukraine. It’s either the torture of our children, or the immediate political death of the dictatorship and its leaders.

I appeal to everyone who wear uniforms of the state of Ukraine: don’t take the blood of Ukrainians on your soul. No job, salary or epaulettes are worth the death of your soul. I urge you to resign from the ranks of Yanukovych’s hired murderers and crossover to the side of the people. I know that your mothers are praying for you and Ukraine, just like the mothers of the sons and daughters that you are killing and maiming.

Put down your weapons! Don’t shoot at those who read the poems of Shevchenko – like Serhiy Nihoyan.

I appeal to the leaders of the democratic world to open a second major front against the dictatorship in Ukraine. The longer you delay this, the more peaceful Ukrainians will die on the battlefield for Freedom.

Every minute you waste is paid in Ukrainian blood.

Ukrainians, children of our sacred land, rise up!

Don’t let them kill a Free Ukraine. Without you she won’t survive another day!

My heart is with you!
